BODY OF WORK

DANNY in this moment

How would you describe this moment in your life right now?
 Exhausting. Beautiful.

What phase of life are you in, & how do you think your age affects your thoughts, your feelings, your decisions?

I’m in Daddy Phase: Level 11. Husband Phase: Level 17. I’m also currently in a why-does-everything-hurt-my-back-I’m-not-that-old-WTF-is-wrong-with-me phase.

I don’t think that my thoughts and feelings are affected by my age–They’ve stayed pretty consistent through the years. My back seems to definitely be affected. Many decisions are affected by my back problems, for sure. And, of course, ALL decisions are influenced by if/how they will impact my ability to fulfill my Daddy & Husband duties.

What’s the last thing you thought of before you went to bed last night?

In my early 20’s, I started a nighttime habit of just lying in bed and focusing on everything I’m grateful for, in life.

The first thing you thought of upon waking this morning?

Why does my son have to wake up SO EARLY, even on weekends?

What have you been working on / playing with / scheming this last week

• Working on curriculum ideas for a kids songwriting class/workshop that I will be facilitating later this month. Working on a CD layout/design for a friend’s new album. Working on finding some steady income.

• Playing with some final recordings/mixes for this new album I’ve been constructing for the last year. Playing Nintendo with wife & son (our weekend tradition)

• Scheming? It would cease to be a scheme, if I revealed that!

If you were to use only three words to describe your current creations, what would they be?
Fun. Raw. Challenging.

What early experience or influence on you is still very much alive for you today in your way of living or in your work?

Tragedy and trauma struck me and my family pretty early on. I became acutely aware of the fragility and impermanence of life at a young age–Settling into acceptance of the fact that EVERYTHING is temporary. Which can be either soothing or frightening, I suppose... but, for me it has been a key factor in learning how to not dwell/drown in the difficult stuff, while at the same time, constantly acknowledging and appreciating the good stuff, WHILE it’s happening. Taking nothing for granted. Striving for peace, above all else. Life will bring plenty of drama and trauma, on it’s own... No need to add any more!

What is something you’re trying to let go of right now, & how is that going?

An entire storage unit of sentimental stuff. It’s not going well.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I once held hands with Richard Simmons.
