KATE in this moment

How would you describe this moment in your life right now?

Transitional but moving closer to authenticity.

What phase of life are you in, & how do you think your age affects your thoughts, your feelings, your decisions?

I’ve  been alive for 51 years. Getting older has been good in so many ways. I’m much more comfortable with myself and don’t pay as much attention to what I might imagine other people are thinking about me. I know what really makes me happy and can choose those activities over what society tells me I’m supposed to be doing. My son is almost an adult and I love the time freedom this gives me compared to having a young child. My  primary focus is on my creative and business pursuits after so many years of primarily being a caretaker for my family and my acupuncture and massage clients and it feels right.

What’s the last thing you thought of before you went to bed last night?

How beautiful  and brilliant the writing is in the audiobook I was listening to as I fell asleep.  (The Covenant of Water)

The first thing you thought of upon waking this morning?

My arm is asleep because my dog is sleeping on it:)

What have you been working on / playing with / scheming this last week?

Trying to decide what other local, small company’s products I would like to include in my Cardamom Design’s  gift boxes this holiday season..  Additionally, learning Adobe InDesign  from an online class so that I can finally compile my digital portfolio and begin pitching it to fabric companies for licensing. Painting in the park and enjoying my favorite season of Fall.

If you were to use only three words to describe your current creations, what would they be?

Pattern, colorful, functional

What early experience or influence on you is still very much alive for you today in your way of living or in your work?

Spending time outside in nature, gardening and being physically active were all a big part of my rural childhood and continue to be a driving force in my daily life. The patterns and art I create are predominantly inspired by the natural world.

What is something you’re trying to let go of right now, & how is that going?

Self doubt. The mantra “Why not me?” is helping, when I feel undeserving of success.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I have a major candy addiction!
